Age STrong nyc

All New Yorkers deserve to live and participate in their communities, and New York City must prioritize systems that enable older adults to stay in our city as they age. Ignoring these issues will have catastrophic consequences for the 1 in 5 people in New York who are over the age of 65 and their families.

Funding has not kept pace with the growing needs of aging communities, and with the over-65 segment of the population projected to grow by 25% by 2040, more and more older New Yorkers will be pushed out of our city or onto the streets. New Yorkers deserve better. We are fighting for solutions that are popular, necessary, and good for the economy, making this a no-brainer investment in our future.

Join LiveOn NY in advocating for $2.3 billion in critical funding for nutrition, housing, and community services for older adults in NYC.

Goals of Age Strong NYC:

We are calling on New York City to prioritize older adults in the FY26 budget by investing:

  • $500 million for expanded nutrition services, including meals for homebound individuals, Older Adult Center meals, and SNAP outreach.

  • $1 billion for affordable housing, including the SARA program, HUD 202 building preservation, SCRIE expansion, and group support services.

  • $800 million for community services, addressing infrastructure issues at Older Adult Centers, mental health services, and public spaces to fight social isolation.

City data shows that older New Yorkers are the fastest growing segment of adults experiencing homelessness. If we fail to make the investments above, more older adults will be at risk of homelessness - which is a failure to each older New Yorker but also our municipal budget. The investment needed is at least $2.3 billion additional dollars, not millions, and if we don't act now that number will only grow, and older New Yorkers will continue to be pushed out of their homes and our communities.
